Got this message from my daughter today, warning me what I am up against for the coming weekend:
About a week or two ago, [SIL] asked me if I had noticed that we are going through toilet paper really quickly. "[GS; he will be 4 in December] has been unrolling tons of it and putting it in the toilet without even wiping himself," he said. At this stage in the game, we pretty much do the wiping for him still, though he has managed a few times. Fast forward to this past Thursday. I get home, and [GS] greets me at our little landing with urgent news.
"I put too much paper toilet paper in the potty and it overflowed," he said with a very serious face. "The water went everywhere! It was a big, big mess. We had to clean it all up. Baba was frust-tur-ated. I am wearing pull-ups now! I am never going to use the potty again. It is scary and dangerous!" Poor little guy! The next morning I went into the bathroom, and he shrieked at me, "Mama! Don't go in there! It is dangerous!" It took a good amount of convincing for him to take the pull-ups off for his first post-incident poo. At this point he is comfortable with the house potty again, but it took a few accompanied visits and a lot of reassurance. He is still scared with high-power public potties and chooses to vacate the bathroom before the flush. I am sure that he would love to recount his saga to you next weekend. It was truly a hilarious homecoming!
