| Some of my favorite vacations have been to places like Canyon de Chelly, and Mesa Verde where man has permanently changed the face of the earth many years ago for habitation and expression. It is interesting to see rock carvings from early people. Arches National Park is probably my favorite place on earth. True someone carving into the rock in the grand scheme of humanity isn't worthy of internal rage. Yet. I am experiencing some right now. If you get the chance visit Arches National Park. Do so. The landscape and primitive trail system here will take you places that are magical, lonesome, beautiful and spiritual. Please don't carve into the rocks. | |

| Yeah, I get mad when I see stuff carved up at monuments or other nature attractions. The only time I don't get mad though is if I see someone has carved their initials plus someone else's in a random rock along a trail or a tree in the forest. I think that's so romantic. | |

| During a bad Halloween prank someone spray painted something racist on a big rock (and other places) near a home I lived in 10 years ago. We reported it to the police, and someone from the town turned it over with a bulldozer. | |

| Just read an article last week about a growing trend of people tagging rocks, artifacts, etc in national parks. It would not go well if I caught someone doing it. I'm one who doesn't appreciate rock climbers climbing El Capitan, scarring the face, leaving bolts and stuff in the rock. And yeah, yeah, I know they're better about it than in the past, but I still don't like it. | |

| So you're against all carving in nature? This guy has been doing it for 25 years. http://www.odditycentral.com/pics/meet-the-man-who-artistically-carves-entire-caves-by-hand-with-a-pickaxe.html | |

There was a feature of his work on TV a while back, on one of the Sunday morning network shows maybe. Impressive and I'd like to see it in person.

| My idiot neighbor stood guard as his kid carved his name into a birch tree (on a private forest ranch property) on a recent scout camp out I was on.
Same tree he carved last year. I think I'll have my kid go carve her initials in the trees in his front yard.
